Trust is the dominating factor for speed

Trust is the dominating factor for speed.

A person you’ve worked with for years calls you.

“This is a good deal.”

You say yes.

A new person calls you with the same deal.

You ask for the numbers.
Then you check the numbers.
Then you ask someone else to check them again.

Same deal. Different speed.

Everyone you interact with starts with some level of trust.
If they come recommended by someone you trust, they start higher.

After that, every interaction is a test.

Is this person doing what they say they’re doing?
Do they go above and beyond to make sure things go well?
When something goes wrong, do they own it… or make excuses?

Every answer moves your trust.
Up or down.

Trust goes up when positive behaviour meets expectations.

It goes down when it doesn’t.

When trust is very high, you take people at their word.

So you trust, and you act on the advice.

You still do the due diligence.

But you don’t double-check. You don’t triple-check.

When there is mistrust, there is a cloud above your head.

“I need to double-check what this person is telling me.”

Because in the past, they weren’t reliable.

It’s not black and white.
It’s many, many shades of gray.
